Jodi Bortz
Music Teacher

Welcome to my ePortfolio. I am an elementary and secondary music teacher in my fourth year of teaching. Through music, I engage students in learning that builds creativity and critical thinking, and builds connections between students and the community and world around them.

Elementary and Early Childhood Music

At the elementary level, I teach Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade. I have also worked with children as young as two years old in music exploration.

Secondary Music Teaching

At the high school level, I teach band class. I am also the director of all extracurricular music ensembles including Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Show Choir, small ensembles, and serve as the musical director of the annual drama production.

Student Performances

I believe in giving student opportunities to perform. Not only does it improve student performance and instill confidence, but it builds bridges within communities.

Successes

Lots of the work of a thriving music program takes place outside the classroom. I have leveraged my experience in nonprofit and project management to make positive changes and add resources to my classroom and the district.

About Me

I have been teaching elementary music for four years and this is my first year of high school band. I began my teaching career as Artist Lecturer of Suzuki Flute at Moravian College (now University) in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where I taught all ages in flute performance and assisted with small college level ensembles.
